I’m gonna Rock this Motherhood Challenge like it’s 1999!

January 22, 2017 by The Rambler 55 Comments

So you know when you get tagged in something, there’s excitement..and then nervousness.  Because you are praying you can come up with something clever.  That happened.

Sending some fun Mommy vibes over to Confessions of a Working Mum  & The Pramshed  &  What My Fridge Says (for thinking I’m worthy of the challenge.)

Basically, how this seems to work out is I must challenge myself to find 10 things that makes me a Rockstar Mom.  I’ve popped on some Prince and determined to create an entertaining read for you all.

[vimeo 164455102 w=640 h=480]

Prince ~ “Party Like It’s 1999” from Clem Auto Sales on Vimeo.

Reason #1- Grocery Shop Hustler

My favorite thing in life. {sarcasm}

Look, how does this make me a RockStar Mom?  Because, I bring balance to our plate.  If I left this up to my husband, we would be eating Canned Potatoes & Ramen Noodles.  Everyday. All Day. And if I left my daughter in charge…it would be Better Crocker Chocolate Chip Cookies and Goldfish.

Seriously.  This is what would happen.  And then they would probably try to sabotage me and “forget” my coffee.  Do I forget their little favorites?  No…I don’t.  I’m getting off course here.  All the major food groups make an appearance in our household.  Nuff said.

You.Are sertraline online.Welcome.Family

Reason #2- Laundry Governess

Seven Words.  Pink Clothes and Infants Fitting Only Jeans.

(Truth—I wrote the second sentence first so I could count how many to be able to write the first sentence, second..now I’m confused.)  We don’t have an infant in this house and have you all tried squeezing in jeans that don’t ‘fit’ you anymore?  It sucks.  It’s soul suckery.

Kid, slowly, but surely…you will learn that mixing of the whites & others is a no-no.  For now,  the mom, will ensure, your school uniform is not smelly, the soccer uniform is ready for battle, and the play clothes is ready for optimum fun.

Reason #3 -The Band-Aid/Boo Boo Kisser

We all know damn well, nothing makes a Boo Boo better than your mother lathering her Mom Magic all over it.  We know they skip right past their dads.  (Speaking of, go check out this post about that) .

Putting the right amount of ice in a ziploc bag to help your knees after a rollerskate palace field trip is my thing.

Reason #4- The Influenza Fairy Killer

I know it could sorta go with reason #3 but come on…when the kids get sick, it a whole other ball game.  No one wipes boogies (gag, seriously about the only thing about motherhood I can’t stomach) like Mom.  Can anyone else makes the soup just the right temperature like Mom?  No one else clicks on the Telly to their favorite channel like their Mom.

No.One.  (As reported by my child)

I lie…actually…my own mother would be the exception in my kids life.  #GrandmothersAlsoRock

Reason #5- Chief Director of your Social Calendar

Sleepovers, Soccer Practices, Movie Outings, Play Dates.  I got you.  I will fill it all in until we are social calendering out of our ears.

You have been taking over some of this role, being in a neighborhood where many of your schoolmates live.  Knock on the door and you are off.  Letting me know, I can put the clipboard down and take a minute to enjoy my coffee.

10 Reasons I Rock Being a Mom! No, seriously…I have 10 reasons. Not lying…I really have 10. Click To Tweet

Reason #6-Dentist & Doctor Appointments Scheduler

If it wasn’t for me, she could possibly have a questionable smile as who knows what her teeth would be like. I imagine a child of the Deliverance folk kind.  {shudder, do you hear Banjo’s playing?}

Reason #7- I’m your Read A Book Dealer.

About the only type of dark figure you want lurking in wait.  The minute she needs a new Dork Diary Book or shows a smidge of interest in Harry Potter series, I’m there.  Opening up my coat, saying…what’s your poison?

Reason #8- Glue Sensei

When your step dad told me his favorite thing about me is how I keep us all connected…I realized this one is huge.  Staying connected keeps you sane and present.  One day, you’ll understand why I made sure we had phone calls to cousins, letters to grandparents, emails to friends, video chats with the aunties.

I’m your Glue Sensei to stay connected to all that we hold dear.  You’re stuck to me young grasshopper until you are ready.  (yes, I went pun there. Deal with it).

Reason #9-The Best Unpaid Dog Walker, Poop Picker Up you’ll ever have.

I know we’ve all been here.  I’ve watched the commercials, movies, TV shows and I’m like “That ain’t gonna be me”.  (sidenote: I know ‘ain’t’ isn’t a word, but that’s what popped out of my mouth in utter conviction).

I’m going to say that 75% of what our furry family member needs, gets done by me.  The mother rocking star of the house.  (*deep breathe, sips coffee).  Wrangling her at the Vet, walking a dog who is faster than my jog, picking up poop because it’s Monday and the lawn people won’t mow unless it’s clean and no one else is home.

You get the picture.

Reason #10-  Cheerleader of EPIC Proportions.

You need someone to scream your name from the sidelines at your soccer game (despite your eyerolls) , I continue to be there with with chap stick and throat lozenges to ensure maximum scream  potential.

When you came home for the first time having made the honor roll I danced and sang praises (to your embarrassment) to continue the high of your hard work.

Band Concerts with first year students?  (My ears, my ears…kidding) No one was prouder than me as I snapped a bazillion photos and attempted a whistle that resulted in spitting instead.

I wear under my mommy outfit “Your Name’s Biggest Fan” spanx everyday.  We must have dual purposes sometimes in life.

I won’t ever ever give up cheering you on with every breathe I take.

Reason #Bonus- I wake up Everyday and Rock your world/Hard Knock Life Teacher

Everyday, I wake up.  And Every day I think of ways that will rock your world so you know how much you are loved.

When I tell you to make your bed for the 6th time and you say I’m ending your life…you’ll know later why this is important.  When you glare at me with angry sass because I’ve said it’s time to get off the computer/Ipad/Iphone so your brain can take a minute to embrace the birds chirping.

Prepping you for the world so you can navigate confidently and with zest is my life’s mission.

To end this story of my reasons I rock the motherhood lifestyle.

Lastly, to end this post of braggery…I am to tag some Mom’s on the World Wide Web that I find to be of the Rocking Star Quality. And in no particular order…I’ve listed 2 ladies that made me laugh my buttcheeks off.

  1.  WebMDiva is my #BestBitch on the internet.  She writes some FUNNY stuff and is like that #BadAssMom you want in your mom-friend circle because she has the biggest virtual ca-hones.
  2. Coffee Mounds & Lipstick Clouds.  She kept it real on a post that I f*cking fell in love with.

Can these 2 ladies tell us how they ROCK being a mom? @cmoundslclouds @webmdiva Click To Tweet

If you are reading this, chances are…you are a mother flipping RockStarMom! I’m sure you may have other reasons I forgot.  I’m knee deep in dog poop & laundry.

Hi Selena, you are a Rockin’ Mumhood that’s for sure. Mums do know how to get food that perfect temperature. And without us there would be no appointments or play dates. Not sure about being dog pooper scooper, I have delegated that job to my son (he’s older) and as for finding TV channels, that is now a job the children do for me as I haven’t a clue… Or so they are led to believe.

Thank you for linking up with the #MMBC.
